Supply-only: what changes when you do it yourself
When you buy supply-only, you take on two jobs: the measuring and the installing. In return, you only pay for the glass, the hardware and the delivery.
For most layouts, the measuring is one number: the width of your opening, tile face to tile face, taken from the shower threshold (top of the step, bottom of the step, or top of the hob). Our measuring guide walks you through it, and the configurator does the maths from there. It takes 3mm off for the wall gap and matches your opening to a stocked panel size.
The install is a real job, but it's a well-trodden one. If you can drill a clean hole in a tile and you've got a second pair of hands for lifting, a fixed panel is a weekend job for most handy people. Read how to install a fixed panel before you decide.
You can see live prices for every layout in the configurator. Enter your opening and it shows the exact panel and price before you commit to anything.
The hidden costs to plan for
Supply-only isn't free of extras. Budget for:
- A diamond tile drill bit if you don't own one (porcelain tiles need it).
- Neutral-cure wet area silicone and a caulking gun.
- A good spirit level. You'll use it to check your walls before you order. See what to do if your walls aren't square.
- A helper on install day. Two people makes lifting 10mm glass safer and easier.
When paying for installation is the right call
Supply-only is a great fit when your walls are reasonably straight, your opening suits a stocked size, and you're comfortable with a drill. It's not the right call if:
- Your walls are badly out of plumb (more than about 5mm over the height of the panel).
- Your shower needs waterproofing work first. That's a licensed trade in NSW for jobs over $5,000.
- You'd rather not lift heavy glass at all.
Not sure which side you're on? Send us a photo through the Five-Minute Fit Check. We'll tell you before you order, not after.
